The Galen Eagles women and the Wesley Junior College (WJC) men won the Association of Tertiary Level Institutions of Belize (ATLIB) northern regional basketball championships at the Belize City Civic Center on Saturday, November 23.

The Galen Eagles won the northern championship, 33-25, over the Wesley Junior College women, led by Tashira Gillett’s 13 pts. Kimberly Spence struck from outside the arc for 12 pts, and Tina Herrera put up 8 pts. Shelene Thomson struck from outside the circle as she led WJC with 11 pts. Kelsey Spence scored 8 pts and Glenda Torres netted 6 pts.

In Game 1, the WJC men blew away the San Pedro Junior College (SPJC) men, 75-19, led by Joshua Bradley’s 19 pts. Raheem Thurton posted 13 pts, Kerdell Tench put up 11 pts, and Elmer Hamilton scored 9 pts. Anigi Conorquie and Joshua Ferguson netted 6 pts each, Jaheim Wright drained in a long trey, and Karic King and Jerris Valentine each threw in a bucket. Jamal Martinez led San Pedro with 6 pts, Anton Laureano added 4 pts, and Albert Lawrence shot 3 pts. Darren Jimenez, Josue Perez and Gregory Angelo tossed in a bucket apiece.

In Game 2 the WJC men dominated the St. John’s Junior College Wildcats, 65-41, led by Tench and Bradley’s 16 pts each. Thurton posted 11 pts, Hamilton scored 7 pts and Conorquie added 6 pts. Wright hit a long trey, and Andrew Bernard and Ferguson each threw in a bucket.

Julian Young struck twice from outside the circle, as he led the Wildcats with 13 pts. Daejon Myles followed suit for 8 pts, and Kaylon Sanchez and Noah Ramclam scored 4 pts each. Tamron McKenzie, Denroy Moore, Tyrese McFoy, Jose Bonilla and Jonathan Davis each tossed in a bucket.

In Game 3, the Wildcats mauled the SPJC men, 80-25, led by Ramclam’s 14 pts. Sanchez and McKenzie posted 10 pts each, while Davis and Wilburn Forbes put up 8 pts each. Young and Flowers netted 6 pts apiece, and McFoy, James Stephen and Josiah Sotor-Smith threw in a bucket apiece. Laureano led the islanders with 11 pts, Lawrence and Brian Barrientos scored 4 pts each, and Isaac Pook and Angelo each tossed in a bucket. Darren Jimenez chipped in a free throw.

The Galen Eagles women and the WJC men will represent the northern and central regions, respectively, at the ATLIB national basketball championships to be hosted by the Stann Creek Ecumenical Junior College in Dangriga on Saturday, November 30.
