Gone too far – Dan Man tells Louie Ganzie

FeaturesGone too far – Dan Man tells Louie Ganzie
“If you and she can’t work, then part
If quarrel start, then walk
If you can’t tek di heat
Then come outa the kitchen
Cause one a dem knife gwine talk
As a man you don’t own a woman
And as a woman you don’t own a man
And as a man you must respect a woman
And as a woman you must respect a man…”
– from Dan Man’s Gone Too Far

Reggae artist to reggae artist, Allison Hemsley, a.k.a. Dan Man, is sending a loud message to Louie Ganzie, birth name Louie Gentle, telling him exactly how he feels about the brutal murder of his Rastafarian sister, Ganzie’s ex-common-law wife, Keisha Sutherland.

A day after Sutherland was stabbed to death, allegedly by Ganzie, Dan Man went to the studio to record a song titled Gone Too Far.

He explains that the purpose for the production is two-fold: (1) to condemn the violence against women, and (2) to send the message that not all Rasta behave like Ganzie did.

Dan Man said that when he first heard about the murder, his first thoughts were with the empress, Keisha, because of the person she was.

Dan Man knew them both, and he said that while he knew of Ganzie’s previous criminal record, he felt that when Ganzie adopted the Rasta faith, he had changed. He said that he was shocked to hear what had happened between Ganzie and Keisha.

With the song, Gone Too Far, Dan Man said that he wants to also let the public understand that in every religious denomination, there are hypocrites.

The album has three bonus tracks: Re-educate yourself, 123, and Jingle the Bells.

This is Dan Man’s third production. The first was the hit single, Albert Street –  the second was his first full-length album – Outta Trenchtown.

He is now working on the production of his second full-length album.

For now, his overarching message to those in the community – men and women, young and old – is to stop the violence.

Dan Man says that 50% of the proceeds will be donated to Keisha Sutherland’s children, and he is accepting sponsorships from those willing to put their money behind the initiative.

Gone Too Far will be launched next Friday, January 19.

Dan Man also plans to do a remix of the title track, which will feature other well-known Belizean artists.
