BELIZE CITY, Thurs. Sept. 7, 2023

Jules Adderley, 43, a resident of Hattieville, Belize District, has been charged for multiple road traffic offenses in connection with a road traffic accident that caused the death of Oscar Mayen, Jr., 20, on the Boom/Hattieville Road on Sunday, September 3.

According to reports, before noon on that day, Mayen had been riding a bicycle in the direction of Burrell Boom on his way to work at his father-in-law’s food business, in the vicinity of CDS Gas Station, when a Toyota 4Runner driven by Adderley, which was coming from the opposite direction, collided head-on with Mayen.

The impact caused Mayen to be flung several feet away from the crash site onto the pavement of the road, where he died shortly after. Adderley’s vehicle stopped when it crashed into a nearby lamppost.

On Wednesday, September 6, the Belize Police Department announced that Adderley had been arrested and charged with manslaughter by negligence, causing death by careless conduct, and driving a motor vehicle without due care and attention.
