The Board of Governors of the International Development Bank (IDB) elected a new president yesterday during a Special Meeting. IIan Goldfajn, an Israeli-born Brazilian national, received the majority of votes from the governors appointed by each member country and is designated to serve as the seventh president of the IDB.

Goldfajn was nominated by Brazil and is to take office on December 19, 2022. He is the former president of the Central Bank of Brazil and former Director of the IMF Western Hemisphere Department. Management and administration of the Bank, which works with Latin America and the Caribbean, will fall on Goldfajn for his tenure. He will also hold chairmanship on various boards within the bank.
