HeadlineJordy Bainton, 44, dies in road accident

BELIZE CITY, Thurs. Aug. 8, 2019– Jordy Bainton, 44, a laborer of Belize City, was riding his bicycle at about 5:00 yesterday evening on the roundabout at the junction of the Philip Goldson Highway and Chetumal Street when he was knocked down by a Mack truck.

Bainton suffered massive head and body injuries in the accident and was rushed to the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital, where he died while being treated.

Police said that when they arrived at the scene, they saw a blue Mack truck parked near the roundabout, and they saw Bainton in front of the truck with injuries to his head and body. Bainton’s black bicycle was under the truck.

Information to us is that Bainton was riding his bicycle between the truck and the median line on the roundabout when he fell under the truck and was dragged for a short distance before the truck came to a stop.

The truck driver has been detained pending investigations, and he has been issued an NIP (Notice of Intended Prosecution).
