BELIZE CITY, Wed. Dec. 18, 2024

On Tuesday morning, December 17, a man and his dog were fatally hit by a cargo truck while they were walking on the Stann Creek Valley Road in the Stann Creek District.

Police have not yet released an official report on the incident, but unconfirmed reports are indicating that the incident took place around 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday in Hope Creek Village, and that the victim, a Guatemalan national identified only as “Jose”, was with his dog en route to visit some friends when they were struck from behind by the truck.

“Jose,” who was residing in Hope Creek Village but had no relatives in the country, was identified by his neighbor. He was transported to the Southern Regional Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Notably, some sources have indicated that “Jose” had visual difficulties.

The driver of the cargo truck is in police custody pending an investigation.
