A Belize City man was gunned down in front of his home in the early hours of Monday, June 2, after being ambushed by a gunman.
The deceased, 59-year-old Egbert Flowers, a truck driver of York Street, Belize City, was leaving his home to venture to his workplace before 4:25 a.m., and immediately as he exited his gate, an unknown male individual came up toward him and blasted multiple gunshots in his direction, causing his fatal injuries.
When police arrived at the scene, they witnessed Flowers’ lifeless body on the ground along with his motorcycle. He was taken to Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital, where he was pronounced dead after 6:00 a.m.
“Police are investigating this incident. This area has video cameras, and the police surveillance footage. So, they are being reviewed intently to ascertain how the incident unfolded and to make an arrest,” said ASP Stacey Smith, Chief of Staff.
ASP Smith also confirmed that Flowers was not on their radar, but was the intended target of his assailant.
No one has yet been detained regarding this murder, but several leads are being followed.
Flowers’ body awaits a post-mortem examination.
