GeneralMan murdered near home in Ladyville

LADYVILLE, Belize District, Tues. May 25, 2021– Near the end of the long weekend, on Monday night, May 24, a 23-year-old Ladyville resident was fatally gunned down just a stone’s throw from his home.

Anfernee Anderson was killed on Manta Ray Boulevard by an assailant believed to be known to him. Reports are that he went to turn on a water valve in his yard when he heard someone calling out to him.

He was shot once, after which he ran out of his family’s yard to prevent any of his relatives from being caught in the line of fire. He reportedly called out for his mother before collapsing on Manta Ray Boulevard, at which point the gunman stood over his body and shot Anderson multiple times at point-blank range, emptying the firearm’s cartridges.

While the motive for this murder seems to be strictly revenge, police believe that Anderson was not initially the intended target. They told reporters that two men were involved in the shooting and that while Anderson was not a member of any of the warring gangs in Ladyville, some of his family members are, and as a result, he may have been killed based on mistaken identity.

Police continue to seek the suspects of this murder as their investigation continues.

Anfernee Anderson was a father of two and a progressive worker at Alta Resources BPO, where he was expected to soon receive a promotion.
