Another victim, Angel Martinez, 21, was admitted to the hospital in a serious but stable condition
SANTA ELENA, Cayo District, Thurs. Sept. 19, 2019– Three persons were socializing in a yard at a house on Perez Street in Santa Elena at about 8:30 last night when two men rode up on a motorcycle and stopped in front of their yard.
One of the men got off the motorbike and fired at the group. Witnesses said that about 20 shots were fired by the gunman, who, after unleashing the hail of bullets, got back on the motorcycle with his accomplice and they rode away.
Police say that two of the persons in the yard did not escape the bullets. Mirna Young, 58, was shot in the chest, and Angel Martinez, 21, was shot in the arm and back. Both victims were rushed to the San Ignacio Community Hospital, where Young was admitted in a critical condition and Martinez was admitted in a serious but stable condition.
Young died shortly after arriving at the hospital.
Police say that the only description they have of the men on the motorbike is that they were both of dark complexion. Police say they don’t know the motive for the deadly gun attack.
