BELIZE CITY. Fri. July 10, 2020– Investigations into the murder of Raheem Faber, 23, a stevedore of Mayflower Street, who was shot and killed at about 11:00 last Friday night while he was standing with a friend of his at the corner of Ebony and Mayflower Street, and the murder of Raheem Myles, 23, a laborer of Los Lagos, Ladyville, Belize District, who was shot and killed last Saturday while he was standing with friends at the corner of Waight Street and Fabers Road, led to five men who were all rounded up in the State of Emergency predawn operation on Belize City’s Southside on Tuesday morning.

Commissioner of Police Chester Williams said that Faber was killed because of a gun he sold, and Myles was murdered in retaliation for Faber’s murder. Williams said that the murders are gang-related, and that police intelligence suggested that there would have been many more acts of retaliation by gang members who have been intensifying their criminal activity in the city.

The five suspected killers, reportedly gang members, have been remanded for one month under the State of Emergency regulations. They are among the 27 gang members who have been remanded.

Williams said that they want those persons who witnessed the murders to cooperate and provide statements to police so that the suspected killers can be charged. He said that two of the men were involved in the murder of Faber and the three other suspects were involved in Myles’ murder

The Police Commissioner said they are calling on the witnesses to give a statement, because without those statements, the suspected killers cannot be charged for the murders.
