NSSSA President reports on CODICADER 2011 results

SportsNSSSA President reports on CODICADER 2011 results
Belize was represented at the 16th Central American Scholars Games organized by CODICADER and hosted in San Salvador, El Salvador.

Belize was represented in seven (7) disciplines, namely: Basketball  – Male/Female; Football – Male/Female; Volleyball – Male/Female; Softball – Female; Athletics – Male/Female; Karate – Male/ Female; and Chess – Male.

Belize’s performance at the games was stellar, as we continue to advance and be better prepared for the games.

This year, we won an impressive 11 medals, which included 4 golds, 4 silver and 3 bronze.

Following is a breakdown of the medal count:

Team Medals

Basketball – Silver: Male, represented by Sadie Vernon High School

Softball – Silver: Female, represented by Nazarene High School

Individual Medals

Basketball – Gold: Lincey Lopez – Most Assists and Most Steals

Athletics – Gold: Jervis Myvette – 100m and 200m

Karate – Silver: Heniquef Williams – Kumite

Athletics – Silver: Gloria Serano  – Shot put

Athletics – Bronze: Melissa Holland – High Jump; Franklin Aranda – Triple Jump

Karate – Bronze: Shawn Grant – Kumite

Overall, Belize’s performance in football, both male and female, improved greatly, with the females winning a game against Nicaragua, and not taking the massive scores as we did in the past. With the exception of the first day of games, the teams rebounded and performed well.

We still have some ways to go, but we believe we are getting there, as we work harder at what we do. We ask for the continued support of all Belizeans as we annually seek to take these athletes to these games.

Thanks to all the schools, parents and the athletes that made this a success.

Thanks to all the sponsors and the Government of Belize for the assistance given. However, we are still short of funds to finalize payments for transportation. We therefore ask that whoever wants to assist us, please contact me a.s.a.p. by phone at 607-1102 or email at [email protected]

Thanks again to all.
