PAC hearings aborted – no quorum

HighlightsPAC hearings aborted – no quorum

The Public Accounts Committee (PAC) meetings which were due to be held this week have been deferred, reportedly to November, after inclement weather caused the postponement of Monday’s session and a lack of quorum today—due to the absence of 4 of 6 committee members—meant that no hearings could be held today.

Amandala was informed, though, that the three social partner senators, invited to observe the proceedings, were present, along with observers from the wider community.

The Opposition has maintained its stance, that it will not participate in the PAC hearings, which it has said are illegal.

However, today’s meeting was aborted because two ruling party members: Mesopotamia area representative Michael Finnegan and Albert area representative Herman Longsworth, reportedly not in Belize, did not attend, an official source told us.

We understand that Belmopan area rep John Saldivar and Collet area rep Patrick Faber, the other two members of the committee, were the only ones present, so today’s meeting—which should have looked at audits for 2005-2007 and 2009-2010—had to be called off.
