BELIZE CITY, Thurs. Dec. 10, 2020– The case of the State versus Police Constable Michelle Brown, 24, for the murder of career barber Fareed Ahmad, 39, continued Wednesday before Justice Colin Williams.

Brown is represented by Senior Counsel Simeon Sampson and Anthony Sylvestre.  The prosecution, represented by Senior Counsel Shanice Lovell, presented arguments to strengthen their submission that Brown shot and killed Ahmad on the morning of December 28, 2017, while he was driving to Hattieville and she was his passenger.

Brown chose to deliver a statement from the dock about the tragic events that unfolded.  She said that she was headed to Belmopan and hitched a ride with Ahmad in his BMW SUV, and that she was in the car with him as he traveled along the George Price Highway. Brown said that when they reached Hattieville, she attempted to exit the vehicle, but she remained in the vehicle after Ahmad offered to drive her further.

Brown further testified that while the vehicle was stationary, a police officer whom she identified as Corporal Elmer Nah, entered the vehicle through one of the back doors, uttered some words, and then pointed a firearm at the back of her head and tried to fire twice, but the gun snapped.

Brown further stated that after the vehicle was back in motion, Corporal Nah then turned the gun on Ahmad, at which point a struggle ensued between the two men and the gun discharged, after which Nah allegedly jumped out of the vehicle.

Brown told the court that after the incident, she was taken to the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital, where she was visited by a man who threatened to kill her children if she spoke on the matter.

Senior Counsel Shanice Lovell, representing the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions, was dismissive of Brown’s testimony and called Police Corporal Elmer Nah, whom Brown accused of being the killer, to testify.

Nah denied any involvement in the murder and testified that on the night in question, he was at home with a relative of his —police officer Senior Superintendent Marco Vidal.

The case was adjourned today, December 10, and resumes on Friday, December 11, 2020.
