BELIZE CITY, Mon. Nov. 13, 2023

Week 14 and a back-match game are all that remain in the regular season of the Premier League of Belize (PLB) 2023-2024 Opening Season, and it is a mad scramble indeed to see which 4 teams will make the playoffs. Defending champions Verdes FC have already secured their playoff berth with 28 points; but 4 other teams are very much in the race for the 3 other sports. The spoiler in it all could be Bandits Sports which has two back matches, one each with Port Layola FC and Altitude FC, both trying to secure their place in the playoffs. (See Week 13 standings below.)

In Week 13 games on Saturday night, at Marshalleck Stadium, Benque United FC dropped Police United FC, 3-1, with goals from Norman Anderson (4’), Andres Makin, Jr. (17’) and Moises Hernandez (60’); while Juan Ocampo (39’) scored for Police.

On Sunday afternoon at the Norman Broaster Stadium, it was Verdes FC, 3-0, over Progresso FC, with a goal each from Marco Zavala (43’), Nicolas Rocha (55’) and Trimayne Harris (90+5’). And at the Carl Ramos Stadium, Wagiya’s woes continue as they were bombarded, 6-0, by visiting Altitude FC, who are very much in the playoff race with a back-match against Bandits Sports. Shaking the net for Altitude were Andres Orozco (4’), Dejmari Pop (34’), Delone Torres (51’), Jardehl Muschamp (77’), Ashton Torres (88’) and Rene Leslie (90+1’).

The game that was to be played at the Marion Jones Sports Complex between Port Layola FC and Bandits Sports was postponed due to field conditions.

Interestingly, presumably due to anticipated playoff race implications, the PLB had scheduled all 4 games in Week 14 on the same day and time.

Upcoming Week 14 schedule:

Saturday, November 25
7:30 p.m. – Police United FC vs Bandits Sports – Marshalleck Stadium
7:30 p.m. – Altitude FC vs Verdes FC – M.A. Stadium in Independence
7:30 p.m. – Progresso FC vs Benque United FC – People’s Stadium
7:30 p.m. – Port Layola FC vs Wagiya SC – Marion Jones Sports Complex
