Sir,

Political appointments. I think the apostle Paul said you have to be aware of the law before you can sin. We are all aware of the rest of the world because of television. We have seen how rigorously the mighty USA goes about certain processes. Some things are obvious, but people still do it. Our governments should not make important appointments in the last year of their term. There should be continuity, but no such contracts should extend beyond three months into another administration. Also, people should not accept such appointments/contracts. There are many brilliant talents any new administration would be wise to hire/keep on if it is serious about improving the nation, but it shouldn’t be pressured into doing so.

No trade. The Prime Minister’s vision was bold, laudable, but his choice of vehicle (full blown capitalism) was, to put it mildly, an error. Core Belizeans want to improve their lots, but they will not kiss no wh— m— ass, trade their dignity to gain worldly goods. Wi po, but wi proud! Also, gains were eroded by poor execution on the ground…and corruption.

A picture’s worth. There, on page 3 of Mr. Steinhauer’s Belize Times newspaper, says it all – UDP Exposure. Sometimes you have to do a couple takes to get the sense out of a picture, but not this one. Who never know, know now.

Somewhere near the center of the photo is Honorable Dean Barrow, seizing opportunity to posture among freedom fighters, ACB. But which of the crew are really sweating Red? Who, if any, stand in the middle? I think the teeth have it!

Yap, you can tell the full story by the teeth. Immediately to the right of the PM-In-Waiting there is the effervescent Miss Christine, smiling as wide as the Belize River, happy as a waterfall. Say, UDP! Beside her stands valiant Mr. Reneau of the Civil Service. You got it, teeth. UDP! And beside him is a happy, heavy-set guy. Teeth, again! UDP!
Swing across the frame, to the far left, and meet a gentleman. Teeth! And beside him, a nice lady…Teeth, too! And beside her, another fine lady…No teeth – but iffy. Smile on her face could be just beginning (meaning, will show teeth), or just ended (meaning, has shown – teeth). The gentleman immediately to her left, cannot tell. Looks pleasant, but might be just a nice person. But since there are only forty or so PUP in the whole country just about now, the odds are, paint him Red. Ah, there is Miss Lois. I know she is not so young. Picture might be doctored…again, you think? Steinhauer is reputedly clever. Innocent me, have to go with what I see. UDP! Gentleman beside Lois, is he Mr. Spooner? I know he’s been in the news recently but not sure of his name. Whatever, teeth! UDP!

Then there is Mr. Godwin. No smile. No teeth. Proof positive, definitely not UDP!

Iagoo walks away from nearly 90 bucks. The statutes of whatever must have run out so I can tell this “half” of a story. My Iagoo tells me he accepted a job from a Mr. Jeffries, a big PUP, who had a “Works” at a place called “Cocos”, near Kitty Bank. The Iagoo said they agreed on $90 bucks for the job, which lasted nearly three months. When he completed the job, Mr. J told him he would get his money…in Belize City.

In Belize City Mr. J told the Iagoo he didn’t think the job was worth $90. The Iagoo says, I told him, we agreed on $90. But Mr. J said no, the Iagoo had to accept less. The Iagoo says he told Mr. J, keep your money, and walked out. But he had a big shake about it, badmouthing Mr. J to all and sundry. Iagoo says that when the old women around the PUP heard what he was doing to their PUP brother, they cussed him up badly.

The Iagoo says that some time afterward the Prime Minister, RH George Price, took Mr. J on a trip. When they returned, the Prime Minister had some very bad things to say about Mr. J. Then, the Iagoo said, all the old women in the PUP started praising him for having exposed Mr. J. But he would have none of it.

You’re okay, Anne Marie. Anne Marie is neither irresponsible, nor malicious; she is bold. It goes with the turf. It’s about getting the story. The Speaker is under nuff pressure right about now, and I don’t want to heap load on her shoulders, but I think she should apologize to Anne Marie. Maybe she just skimmed Anne Marie’s article. I hope she does it in the Reporter this week, and drop a little something first chance in the House. I don’t think an apology will harm her Office.

As for Anne Marie’s apology to Dr. Corinth, I like that. I think the difficulty came about because Dr. Corinth, it appears, tried to insulate the university (her style?); and Anne Marie will get her story. Rape is one of the most difficult stories to cover because there is always a cover up. What I mean is, there is never full disclosure about a rape. In these vague lines, toes will get mash. It happens every single time. And you know one thing leads to the next. Anyway, I am glad these two great women kiss and make up.

Hey, the rule in Belize is (has been), never stick your nose…so I expect to get flogged for my comments in the near term. But, time alone proves sincerity.
P.S. The Speaker could have been referring to another article, but I did not come across any other in the weekend papers that could have been so misconstrued.

(Signed) Colin

P.S. Monday, 7 a.m., I have just heard the news that Mr. Derek Aikman has been kidnapped. I join with his family and the rest of the nation in praying for his safety.
