Police seeking men brandishing firearms in video

GeneralPolice seeking men brandishing firearms in video

BELIZE CITY, Mon. July 19, 2021– Today, the Belize Police Department announced that they are actively seeking a group of men seen in a video brandishing high-caliber handguns on social media.

The video, which surfaced over the weekend, shows at least 3 or 4 men, flaunting the firearms in their possession.

Attached to one of the firearms that the men exhibited in the video was a drum cartridge, which has the capacity to hold a substantial number of additional rounds of ammunition that could be fired by the gun.

The Police Department’s communications director, ASP Fitzroy Yearwood, said that over the weekend he received various messages of concern regarding the video. He is asking the general public for assistance in the investigation.

According to ASP Yearwood, the department will seek the advice of the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP) and is aiming to bring charges against the men once they are detained.

“If we tolerate these people to operate in this kind of fashion where they can boast on social media about carrying these weapons — for their sake I’m hoping that they are imitation firearms, but of course we know nobody would make a video brandishing imitation firearms out there, but if these culprits are caught, then we will know exactly how to deal with them,” ASP Yearwood said.
