Progresso FC enters playoffs ranked 3rd in PLB standings

SAN PEDRO, Ambergris Caye, Sat. Mar. 29, 2025

Port Layola FC remains atop the standings with 24 pts to end the Premier League of Belize (PLB) 2024-2025 Closing Season regular tournament, despite a scoreless draw with the San Pedro Pirates FC at the Ambergris Stadium in San Pedro Town on Saturday night, March 29.

The one point the Pirates picked up from the draw was enough for them to nudge Belmopan FC out of 4th place on goals differential, after Belmopan fell 1-6 to Verdes FC at the Isidoro Beaton Stadium also on Saturday night. Thus, the Pirates face a rematch with Port Layola in the playoffs for the chance to enter the finals.  (See final regular season standings below.)

The Green Machine remained in 2nd place with 19 pts, as they trundled Belmopan’s playoff hopes into dust, led by Desmond Wade’s brace (34’ & 42’), and Alex Asencio’s brace (81’ & 90+1’), along with other goals by Krisean Wade (11’) and Eldon “Tuncy” Reneau (86’). Only Wilfredo “Buddy” Galvez (22’) converted a penalty for the home team to tie the score briefly at 1-1.

Progresso also secured their playoff berth at No.3 in the standings by a 3-0 win over Wagiya at the Carl Ramos Stadium in Dangriga on Sunday afternoon, March 30, with goals by Yubequier Arenas (69’), Izon Gill (80’) and Andir Chi (89’).
