BELIZE CITY, Mon. Feb. 10, 2025

The much-anticipated confrontation between league leaders Verdes FC and the 2-time defending champions Port Layola FC fizzled like a firecracker in the rain; as both squads settled for a scoreless draw in the 4th week of the Premier League of Belize Closing Season tournament at the Marshalleck Stadium in Benque Viejo on Saturday night, February 8.

The real excitement in the weekend’s matches was on La Isla Bonita where Jhon Vergara’s brace (10’ and 57’) led the Progresso FC to upset the San Pedro Pirates, 2-1, after Keydenshay Bowen (6’) had delighted home fans with the first goal at the Ambergris Stadium on Saturday night.

Thus, Verdes continues to lead the league standings with 10 pts, while Port Layola remains in 2nd place with 7 pts. Progresso has moved into 3rd place with 6 pts after their 2nd win and a better goal differential than the Pirates, who fell to 4th place.

Wagiya SC remains at 5th place, and the Belmopan FC at 6th place, as both squads struggled to a scoreless draw at the Isidoro Beaton Stadium on Saturday night.
