Dear Editor:
Rest in peace, Dame Minita Gordon, the country’s first Governor General since Belize’s Independence in 1981. I remember her sister, Dorinda Coye, when she was married to Orvin Yorke (he used to work at Stanley Field), the son of Ms. Ethel Wade.
I used to lodge with Ms. Ethel on Pickstock St. I used to carry the stool for elderly Ms. Ethel when George Price would invite Ms. Ethel to PUP meetings at Majestic Theatre.
In 1952 Price’s house was four houses south on Pickstock St. I was going to St. John’s College. Dorinda Coye had become Ms. Henderson when she transferred to California. Then Dorinda came to live with Orvin on Pickstock St.
I remember when Minita came to visit Dorinda one day.
Ronald Clarke was the author of Price’s famous speech (1962) at Anglican. Nicolas of GMU, the orator, convinced me at PUP meetings!!
