Shooting death in Burrell Boom

GeneralShooting death in Burrell Boom

BURRELL BOOM, Belize District, Thurs. July 2, 2020– A shooting that occurred at about 2:00 this morning in Burrell Boom as a result of a domestic dispute, has left one man dead.

Police said this morning that Fitzgerald Gabourel, 53, became involved in a domestic dispute with his wife, Denise Gabourel, in their house, during which he lashed her with a machete and threatened to kill her.

Denise then shouted to her brother, Dylan Flowers, 40, who lives nearby, for help. Her brother came out of his house to see what was happening, and that was when he saw Gabourel, armed with a machete, coming towards him.

Flowers who was armed with his licensed pistol, told police that he told his brother-in-law to drop the machete, but that he refused to do so, and continued to come towards him to chop him.

Flowers told police that that was when he shot him in the chest.

Police were called and Gabourel was taken to the hospital, where he was declared dead on arrival.

Flowers has been detained pending an investigation.
