Sic transit imperium!

FeaturesSic transit imperium!

After the UDP once again disgraced itself in the form of the former leader, Saldivar, being banned from entering the United States, which he claims he will appeal, it’s time for them to rebrand themselves, start all over with a new name, new leadership, new candidates! We have all seen and heard the phone calls, the misuse of government institutions, of payoffs for who knows what favors. There is no “allegedly” here, it’s in black and white. With all these clowns vying for control of an almost defunct party, there are so many questions that need to be answered. The first one is, how did they sink so low? How can you disrespect the members of the party, so callously, so coldheartedly? Where are the responsible leaders, what rock are they hiding under? Sic transit imperium! So passes the empire.

I’m just a man; I try to be honest in all that I put on paper; sometimes it can be painful, but it’s also therapeutic to get rid of your angst. It pains me to see the slow disintegration, the unraveling, the passing of a once formidable machine! They were supposed to protect us from the PUP, from chaos and anarchy and crime. Instead, they unleashed hell upon the Jewel, with no regard for the consequences that would follow! Well, now they are nothing, a laughingstock to the world, obsessed with their own personal agendas, not those that their voters expected. To call them the Opposition, or a minority party, would be too kind. The arrogance, the selfishness, the greed, are so hard to watch, to digest, especially for someone like me who was a true believer, even from a distance.

This wounded, dying beast of a party must be put out of its misery. It has to be put down, like a horse with a broken leg, useless and way past its time and prime! Someone has to make the decision to start over, maybe go back to calling it the NIP, the original name, and party, that meant something! Then get rid of all these unworthy, duplicitous agents of Satan who don’t know what honor is, what service and sacrifice and love of country means. Not all the leaders, there are some who I think are still trying, but the rest of them have to go!

My friend reminded me the other day of how they drove the Honorable Philip Stanley Wilberforce Goldson out of the leadership. He even laid some of the blame at my feet, as a part of that coup. It made me think about all the mistakes made way back then, all the egos involved in the vying for power, the devil be damned! He must be spinning in his grave to see all his sacrifices destroyed by pirates, by power-hungry insects, scuttling about, going nowhere!

Unless there’s a realignment, a new party, a new direction, Belize will remain a one- party state, with no checks and balances! I don’t trust any political party with that kind of power, even if I agree with their policies. Power corrupts, and absolute power corrupts absolutely! This fall from grace has been precipitous, and it will take decades for them to climb out of that bottomless pit, in whatever form! We need a new opposition party, no redemption song! The party in power has to learn, to not follow in the UDP’s tarnished, corrupted footsteps. The Belizean voters are patient, but when the time comes for them to throw out the bums, they always will!

Sic transit imperium!
