BELIZE CITY, Thurs. Jan. 21, 2021– The Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital (KHMH) is scheduled to resume its provision of specialist clinic services on Monday, January 25, 2021. The KHMH Authority said that the clinics will now be open to provide daily surgical services for oncological, laparoscopic and orthopedic patients.
The hospital authority assured the public that it is taking maximum precautions to minimize the risk of transmission of the COVID-19 virus. Patients wishing to receive care must undergo a rapid test at triage, and surgery patients must receive a PCR confirmation test at least 72 hours before surgery. The testing sites will be at Triage Point and at the Specialist Outpatient Clinic.
Other important measures to be taken by healthcare professionals at the KHMH will include: cleaning and decontamination after patient discharge, thorough revision of cleaning protocols to ensure effective cleaning and disinfecting of surfaces and reusable equipment, training and re-training of staff and additional Infection prevention and control safety measures.
Back in August 2020, the KHMH Authority made the decision to suspend Specialist Outpatient Clinic services and elective surgeries after entering emergency mode due to the COVID-19 outbreak within the country. It’s been six months since then, and citizens are now welcomed to the facility to receive surgical services.
