SportsSporting community rocked by passing of Ian Mariano

BELIZE CITY, Mon. Nov. 23, 2020– The news was shared on WUB last week that sporting personality and basketball promoter extraordinaire Ian Mariano was at the KHMH Covid-19 Unit and in need of rare blood type A/B; and then that for a whole day his family was unable to get an update from health authorities. Though still a relatively young man in his early forties, the fact that Ian was reportedly on a ventilator signaled to the sporting community that his situation was serious. And yesterday morning, in a weekend that saw a rising number of Covid-19 deaths, the sad news hit the airwaves that Ian had passed on Saturday. From Inter-Office to NEBL basketball, the indomitable creative spirit and promotional savvy of Ian Mariano had significantly raised the level of excitement and entertainment for fans across the country over the past few years. He will be sorely missed.

From the sports desk, our sincere condolences to his family, relatives and many friends in the basketball family and media community. Rest In Peace, brother Ian Mariano!
