St. John’s College announces the appointment of David Espat to the position of Director of Advancement and Alumni Relations.
The Office of Advancement and Alumni Relations has as its mission the securing of resources to support the long-term progress of the College and enhance excellence in education for our students.
In his position as Director, Mr. Espat will design, implement and manage all fundraising activities including annual giving, endowment and capital campaigns, special projects, and other school-related partnerships. He will also work with the Campus Development Committee of the Board of Trustees and the President to develop strategies to initiate and meet progressive fundraising goals. Mr. Espat also will lead the organization of alumni events, collection and publication of news and information about College alumni, and the maintenance of accurate and up-to-date alumni records.
Mr. Espat first joined the College community in 1982 as Work Scholarship Director after briefly working in customer service and financial supervision positions in the petroleum and brewing industries. In his years with the College, Mr. Espat has taught in both the high school and junior college, served as Assistant Dean for Student Affairs in the Junior College; held the position of Assistant to the President, and guided the start-up of the College’s Centre for Business and Career Development.
Mr. Bernaldino Pech is now the Director of the Charles T. Hunter Commission for Social Outreach. He is expected to lead efforts to create and promote a College-wide climate of outreach and service. In this position, Mr. Pech will involve faculty, staff, and students in all academic divisions of the College in developing, implementing, and evaluating action-oriented strategies which promote awareness of and involvement in addressing Belizean social issues; motivate action for peace and justice in Belize; build commitment for positive societal change in Belize; and encourage and spearhead a deeper understanding of and respect for Belize’s history and culture.
Mr. Luis Pook is now the Assistant Headmaster for Student Affairs in the High School, with effect from August 1, 2008. He supervises the conduct of students in the high school; advises on and helps to formulate rules of conduct for students and assists students and teachers in the observance of these rules; administers policy on emergency procedures and student health; supervises the maintenance of student attendance records; and assists the headmaster in all matters relating to school climate and student discipline.
An educator since 1986, Mr. Pook taught English Language and Literature and served as Vice Principal for Student Affairs at Muffles College. In his one venture outside of education, he served briefly as Public Relations Officer in the Ministry of Agriculture.
A graduate of St. John’s College Sixth Form, where he earned an Associate of Arts and Science Degree with majors in History, Spanish, and Economics, Mr. Pook also earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in English Education from the University of Belize.
Ms. Consuelo Godfrey takes over the position of Assistant Dean for Student Affairs in the School of Liberal Arts with effect from August 1, 2008. In this position, she will work closely with the Student Services Team, the dean and other administrators, students and faculty to bring life to the College vision and mission of providing holistic education to students. She will be responsible for actively promoting the social, spiritual, physical and intellectual development of students through the management of student support services and activities.
Apart from teaching, Ms. Godfrey has worked in Customer Service and Public Relations with Belize Electricity Limited.
In the School of Professional Studies, Ms. Angie Moodyfills the new position of Associate Dean for Workforce and Economic Development, effective August 1, 2008. In this position, she will lead the efforts of the College in offering a wide array of customized workforce and professional development training for the business sector, non-profit organizations, and public agencies.
Ms. Moody, a graduate of the Belize Teachers’ College, holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Secondary Education, with a focus on English, from the University of Belize. Also a graduate of St. John’s College Sixth Form, Ms. Moody earned an Associate Degree in Business Administration.
Mrs. Melissa Leal, as Associate Registrar, effective August 1, 2008, will support the academic mission of St. John’s College Junior College by maintaining and managing accurate and timely student academic records for both the School of Liberal Arts and the School of Professional Studies. She collaborates with the Offices of Academic Affairs of the Junior College to publish the annual Academic Bulletin.
