HighlightsStake Bank report to be tabled at Cabinet Sept. 17

Minister of Labour, Local Government, Rural Development and National Emergency Management and Immigration and Nationality, Godwin Hulse, who heads the Cabinet subcommittee on investments, told Amandala Friday morning that he was getting ready to meet with Government’s technical personnel who have been reviewing the business proposal made by Michael Feinstein, to bring online a US$100 million cruise port and shopping venture at Stake Bank and North Drowned Caye.

Hulse confirmed earlier indications that whereas Cabinet supports the project in principle, there are concerns over the dimension of the project that calls for two causeways, as well as the possible diversion of business from Belize City.

He told us that after his meeting today with the technical committee – which includes officials from the tourism and environment sectors – he will present a report to Cabinet.

That cabinet meeting, said Hulse, won’t happen next Tuesday, September 10, but the following Tuesday, September 17.

He stressed that due process has to be followed before any final word is given on the project.
