CARMELITA, Orange Walk District, Fri. Sept. 25, 2020– An investigation into the robbery of Maria Montenegro, 53, a boledo vendor of Carmelita who was robbed by three armed men at her house at about 8:00 Wednesday night, led to the arrest of two of the suspects — Tray Robert McKenzie, 22, an unemployed resident of Carmelita, and a minor, 17, also of Carmelita.

The robbers, who got away with a cell phone and an undisclosed amount of money, were charged with aggravated robbery. They were detained pending a court appearance at the Orange Walk Magistrate’s Court on Monday, September 28, when they will be taken before Magistrate Merlene Moody, to be arraigned.

Police said that the third suspect was arrested in Hattieville yesterday, and will be taken to the Orange Walk Police Station, where he will be charged for the same aggravated robbery.

Maria Montenegro told police that on Wednesday night at about 8:00, while she was selling boledo in her house through a window, three armed men went into her house, and one of them, who was carrying a 12-gauge pump action shotgun, pointed the gun at her and demanded money.

Fearing for her life, she handed over a bag containing an undisclosed amount of money, and the thieves also stole her cell phone, valued at $150, after which they walked out of her house.

Police said that their investigation into the robbery led to a house in the village, where a search was conducted and a 12-gauge pump action shotgun, a revolver and a bag containing money was found.

A further investigation led to the arrest of the third robber in Hattieville.
