Permission had not been given for the plane to enter Belizean airspace, and after being tipped off that there had been unauthorized entry into the country of a foreign aircraft, the police went to the scene of the crash-landing on the Blue Creek Community airstrip and saw the plane.

The front of the plane — a white and maroon Cessna 210 with the markings “XBNVX” — was extensively damaged. A search of the aircraft by police led to the discovery of aviation fuel, three navigational devices, Mexican pesos and 0.6 grams of suspected cocaine.
