UDP leaders giving up no Widow’s Mite

FeaturesUDP leaders giving up no Widow’s Mite

You realize the PUP in opposition is as poor at handling their candle as the UDP was before they were given control of the country, to fix things in 2008. Talk about wasted votes. Talk about jump out of frying pan an lan eena fire. Talk about another big betrayal. The credibility of our political leaders is lower than the spot where the international financiers are putting our economy. After repeatedly betraying the Belizean people, our political leaders’ words da junk.

Hmm, there are things I would prefer to see resolved in the full-blown political arena, but you know how much I suffer when the nonsense of these politicians spins into our part of the orb. Ai, propaganda is such a bad thing.

Please, what the UDP leaders are giving up is no widow’s mite. For twelve long years we paid this bunch with the skin off a wi hand een side, definitely more than we can afford. They have run government with no transparency or accountability. They say they are honest. We know that honest people are transparent and accountable. Turn the letters every which way, and when it rolls out of the barrel it always spells, “CORRUPT”.

They are quite faysi. They have lived it up for twelve years, twelve months a year – 12 x 12 months, (144 months!), and now they give up a portion of their perks, and some of their pay in ONE month, and they want us to say, “hooray, how good and generous our leaders are”.

Bah, they give up crumbs from their plenty. In Luke 21:1-4, we get the story of the widow’s mite: “And He looked up and saw the rich putting their gifts into the treasury, and He saw also a certain poor widow putting in two mites. So He said, ”Truly I say to you that this poor widow has put in more than all; for all these out of their abundance have put in offerings for God, but she out of her poverty put in all the livelihood that she had.” (from BibleGateway)

It is an insult, Pharisaical, the way these UDP leaders and their mouthpieces behave. And it is as wicked as the worst PUP in that party’s worst days, for them to point the accusatory finger across the aisle and say they (PUP leaders) are not giving up anything.

The PUP cannot come close to matching the resources the UDP has at this time. We have to expect that the PUP, who have been in the cold for 12 years, use some of what they have to help the people who have been denied by a government that has copied and added acid to the sour old PUP “reward your friends, punish your enemies” philosophy. The common arithmetic says that like Saul, the PUPeez have their thousands, and the UDP, like David, have their tens of thousands, no, millions. That party has been controlling all the contracts for 12 long years, and they haven’t shown us the books.

It’s not hard to figure how it works because we’ve been watching the PUP operate for years, and the last 12 years we’ve watched the UDP compound the felonies. The cushy jobs and perks go with the territory; their take-home earnings are better than the salaries/wages of most everyone else in the country. Bah, the PM said he didn’t consider that CEOs were getting fat pay. Relative to what most of us make, they are feeding like kings and queens.

That Dean Barrow, he is from another world, a place called LAWYERDOM, where some win rich foreign clients. This lawyer bizniz — you know that most lawyers are gormandizing off the national patrimony. Don’t be misled, every transaction that involves anything to do with Belize, is feeding off national patrimony. If we lived in a proper economic system, one like the one the Pope spoke about, where everyone gets taken care of, there would be none of their massive feeding. They are running hog wild off a warped system.

Oho, the real game for the politicians in power is in the contracts. Who controls the contracts gone klayr, and the UDP Ayes have it. The value of the contracts they gave out over the last 12 years is written in the billions. How many years were we without a Contractor General to scrutinize the deals? How many times did AG Pere’s overworked department just take a cursory glance at the numbers before giving the check mark so that the selected contractors could get into the tranches? Who knows if unfortunate slippage didn’t take place under that kind of rule? Over 400 million dollars in contracts was rolled out from the sweet Petro Caribe!

Joseph needed only 7 years to store up enough to carry Egypt through 7 years of lean. These ones, who have enjoyed fat pay and perks for a dozen years, and been oh so up close to all the bloated contracts, have only given up a portion of one month’s happiness and they are gloating about how kind and generous they are.

We are not ungrateful for their crumbs, no, but they are not reaching into the bottom of their pockets for any widow’s mites. They are Pharisees using a little from their excess and the devil’s chicanery to win popularity in the marketplace.

Proud of Belizeans wearing face masks

I feel proud when I go out in public and see so many Belizeans wearing face masks. All the facts we have at present say that wearing face masks when in public places works out for the good of all.

It is possible that Belizeans are wearing face masks because of the draconian penalty if you are caught in public without one. It’s natural that the more people see others wearing face masks, the more people will wear them. So there is some good, even in what’s draconian!

There have been arrests of people who were not respecting the curfew, people who were not properly physical distancing when in a public place, and people who weren’t wearing face masks. I expect that some of the people who were arrested for not wearing face masks believe they have valid reasons to resist. They must be put right.

Look at the evidence around the world. The countries where people put on face masks when they are in public do better at controlling the disease.

The strange WHO

I hate to say it, but from the literature that I have, the WHO is guilty of strange messaging.

On the question,” Can wearing a mask protect you against coronavirus?”, the WHO says: “Before putting on a mask, clean hands with alcohol-based hand rub or soap and water; cover mouth and nose with mask and make sure there are no gaps between your face and the mask; avoid touching the mask while using it. If you do, clean your hands with alcohol-based hand rub or soap and water; replace the mask with a new one as soon as it is damp and do not re-use single-use masks. To remove the mask: remove it from behind (do not touch the front of mask); discard immediately in a closed bin; clean hands with alcohol-based hand rub or soap and water.”

On the question, “When and how to wear medical masks to protect against coronavirus?”, the WHO says: “If you are healthy, you only need to wear a mask if you are taking care of a person with COVID-19. Wear a mask if you are coughing or sneezing. Masks are effective only when used in combination with frequent hand-cleaning with alcohol-based hand rub or soap and water. If you wear a mask, then you must know how to use it and dispose of it properly.”

All that is good, excellent advice based on all the information we have, but the WHO doesn’t comment, I couldn’t find a comment to support, all of us wearing face masks when we go to the store. However, the WHO says this: “Sick people should wear masks to protect others from small droplets that can come out when they cough or sneeze.”

There is a vast amount of literature out there saying that asymptomatic people are responsible for as much as 25% of the spreading of COVID-19. Some experts are saying that infected people can spread the disease through talking, heavy breathing, coughing, and sneezing. The only way we know we don’t have the disease is if we’ve taken a recent test. We can’t tell an allergy cough or a flu cough from a COVID-19 cough. We wear the face mask so that we keep our coughs and sneezes to ourselves.

Don’t listen to anyone who tells you that wearing an uncomfortable face mask when you’re in public is a waste of time. To not do so could cost you some big money. And there’s a lot of literature out there to support its use. We must all wayr wi mask.
