BELMOPAN, Mon. Mar. 29, 2021– In recent exchanges between Kevin Bernard, Minister of Youth, Sports and E-Governance, and H.E. Gerardo Argote, Ambassador of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela to Belize, they have discussed various ways in which they could boost youth productivity and sports in both states.
Noting that baseball is a well-liked sport in Belize, Ambassador Argote expressed his commitment to send experts from the self-proclaimed baseball giant, Venezuela, to train Belizeans in the sport.
“I share my deepest appreciation and readiness for continued work efforts with our neighbour Venezuela,” said Hon. Kevin Bernard, “This is a continued step to advance the development of youth and sports in the country.”
The Belize and Venezuela representatives also discussed the possibility of a virtual meeting between the two countries’ Ministers of Youth and Sports. Despite the absence of a dedicated E-governance ministry in Venezuela, the Ambassador also shared Venezuela’s interest in aiding Belize where possible. A memorandum of understanding was proposed for future joint ventures.
Additionally, Minister Bernard and H.E. Argote intend to host a friendly football match between the Belize Jaguars and the Venezuela National under-20 selection when COVID restrictions are lifted.
