BELIZE CITY, Wed. May 27, 2020– Cycling enthusiasts and fans of the Cross Country Cycling Classic are mourning the death of veteran Cross Country rider Glen “Big Man” Gordon, 65, of Partridge Street Extension. He died Tuesday morning at his home due to complications of cancer.

Gordon suffered a stroke in December and since then he had been recovering at home, but the condition took a turn for the worse. His wife, Alva Gordon, believes that he suffered a massive stroke from which he could not recover.

She explained to us that she was with him in his room that Tuesday, but was packing laundry and went briefly into another room when a man who lives with them went into Gordon’s room and saw him motionless.

Alva rushed into the room and also saw him motionless. She said that she touched him and called his name, but he did not respond, and that was when she realized that he was dead. She called an ambulance, which told her to call police, who went to the home and told her to call an undertaker, and the undertaker transported Gordon’s body to the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital morgue.

Alva said that because of the sudden, quick manner in which Gordon passed away, she has concluded that he suffered a stroke.

Gordon’s family members described him as being a jovial and loving person. He was married and was the father of five children and the grandfather of thirteen.

The country will remember him as a veteran Cross Country rider who began riding the tough race in the early 70s, and would always finish in the top 10, and in 1992, he took home the 2nd place prize. He was always a serious contender for the Garland of Roses and the prestigious title of Cross Country Champion of Belize.
