Vision

Listen my Belizean people, I am 90 years old and I want to tell you that we are all in this together, that we are all going through a financial pressure dealing with the angels of darkness, Covid-19.

This is a serious situation we are facing and in this sad moment everyone’s back is against the wall, both the poor and the rich are hurting financially, so we must be very careful how we do some things.

Our government leaders are doing the best they can, in some cases; they are not your enemy and when they ask you to stay home it is to save your life. We can see that staying at home is working. Listen to the news; let us work together as a people with the health department and our doctors.

It is difficult to completely close down the food chain. I understand the authorities have to put in place some rules and regulations, but I am asking that they consider this situation well, because we can’t starve our people and try to save their lives at the same time. The Belizean people, especially our children, can’t do without fruits and vegetables.

I don’t agree with stopping the Mennonites from selling their fruits and vegetables. Let the Mennonites have at least 5 hours to come and deliver their fruits and vegetables to the market and grocery stores, so the Belizean people can eat. Remember the Mennonite people have been good to Belize.

Bowen and Bowen Company can’t take care of all our Belizean people with Crystal Water in this time of need, not in this very hot weather, and the drought. My people, I am telling you from the heart that no matter how small your house is, get some gutters and a vat from Habet and set up a water system for your home. Get someone to wash off your roof before you start collecting water. I am not telling you not to buy Crystal Water. Our God created our own drinking water. I am telling you in time of a terrible drought coming to the Caribbean Region that you need to set up your own water system. I boil my rain water to drink, but you can cook with your rain water from your vat.

Many years ago I told my Belizean people in my column that this day is coming, but they did not take my advice.

We are a peaceful people and we need to try our best to avoid putting pressure on each other. The poor don’t have all the money the rich people have, so they can’t afford to stock up on food like the rich do. If you can help others financially, don’t hold back your gifts.

Some use their little power in this critical time to push people around, and abuse them. Please remember that you are dealing with adults, not little children. Respect each other, do your job. If you are abusive you might run into the wrong people and, believe it or not, this is the kind of thing that could start a civil war in our country.

Follow the golden rule. If you are an officer of the law, do your job. Take in the person who is doing wrong and charge them, but no one gave you the authority to beat a grown man or woman. Some of you beat the young too. Let me tell you this: you are letting down your boss, your people, and your country, to satisfy your ego.

This is not what the government is paying you for. Calm down and only do the job they are paying you to do.
