Wayne “Red Boy” Uter visits home

FeaturesWayne “Red Boy” Uter visits home
Wayne “Red Boy” Uter, who became popular as a disc jockey at Radio Belize in the 1980’s, arrived in Belize from New York City last Thursday for a two- week vacation.

Red Boy said that although he has a degree in Broadcast Journalism which he acquired from Crown School of Broadcasting in 1998, he does not work for any radio stations. He is still a DJ, but only does it at night clubs and private parties, he explained.

Red Boy revealed that he is more into the real estate business. He is a real estate broker associated with several other real estate brokers working in Manhattan.

Red Boy said he got into the real estate business when he first migrated to New York in 1986. He worked as a real estate salesperson for a year before he applied for a broker’s license and was successful.

“When I first went to New York I tried to get into broadcasting and after I began attending school, I had to find a job to earn money to survive so — into real estate,” he explained.

Besides real estate and being a DJ sometimes, Red Boy owns a recording studio – Black Widow, which he recently completed.

Red Boy said that so far he has recorded the dub poetry of Belizean reggae artists Ras Sherman and Mad Bones.

When he returns to New York he plans to record the work of DJ Nioca, an American hip hop artist, said Red Boy.

Apart from recording the music of upcoming artists, Red Boy uses the studio to do mixed CD recordings. He and another DJ, Stereo Mars, a Jamaican, are currently working together and their CDs will be marketed through Red Boy’s website.

Red Boy said he is training his youngest son, Roderick, 21, to take over the recording studio. Red Boy’s other sons are Jermaine, 22; Newton, 29; and Brandon, 21. His daughters are Rechia, 20; Devona, 19; and Amber, 18.

Red Boy will appear as a guest on KREM Radio’s Wake Up Belize morning show on Thursday, January 11. He will leave Belize on Wednesday, January 17.

Red Boy’s first visit home was in 1996.
