BELIZE CITY, Wed. Mar. 8, 2023

The National Amateur Women’s League (NAWL) completed its second week of games this past weekend in its 2023 Opening Season. The 10 participating NAWL teams are divided into two groups, A and B, with 5 teams each, based on their ranking in the last NAWL season. Below are the Week 2 results.

Only 1 of the 2 scheduled Group A games was actually played, as the Jewel Fury vs Verdes Rebels game will be played later as a back match. The only Group A game was on Saturday night at the M.A. Stadium in Independence, where home standing Sagitun Girlz crushed Rumberas, 4-0, with 3 goals from Sabrina Eiley (43’, 45’ & 57’) and the other from Olivia DaCosta (90+’).

In Group B action, both games kicked off at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday. At the Carl Ramos Stadium in Dangriga, it was the home team, New Site Rivals claiming the 1-0 victory over Napoles FC from Belmopan on a goal by Taryn Arnold (50’). Meanwhile, it was a 3-3 stalemate at the Norman Broaster Stadium between Cayo Dreamers and Midsouth Elite, where a player from each team registered a hat trick in a see-saw affair with three lead changes. Audi Carrillo (50’, 56’ & 86’) did all the scoring for Cayo Dreamers, while Unique Green (24’, 78’ & 82’) did the same for Midsouth Elite.

The FFB announced that all the Week 3 games scheduled for March 11 are postponed so all teams will be resting this coming weekend. This is likely due to the Belize National Women’s U19 team competing this week at the UNCAF U19 Championships in Honduras from March 4 to 11, and a number of U19 players are also members of the NAWL teams. The NAWL tournament resumes next week Saturday with Week 4 games.

Week 4 NAWL A and B schedule:

Saturday, March 18
4:00 p.m. – (A) Verdes Rebels vs Rumberas – Norman Broaster Stadium
4:00 p.m. – (B) Midsouth Elite vs Napoles FC – M.A. Stadium in Independence
6:00 p.m. – (A) Sagitun Girlz vs Jaguar Women – M.A. Stadium in Independence
4:00 p.m. – (B) New Site Rivals vs Jaguar Girls – Carl Ramos Stadium
