We didn’t see it, but we have to believe it, as the official reports from the Super League secretariat have it “in black and white”. After shutting out Orange Walk United here at the MCC last Sunday by a 4-nil score, defending Belize Bank Super League champions Raymond Gentle-City Boys United promptly went to Orange Walk’s People’s Stadium for the return match on Saturday night, and took 5 straight goals from Orange Walk United, before getting a consolation goal for the 5-1 final score.
Reports are that all is not well inside the City Boys camp, and some serious re-grouping will have to take place before this coming Sunday. We can’t remember seeing such a turnaround in scores between two teams in one week for as long as we can remember. It may not look good for City Boys, but it certainly makes for a very exciting last two weeks of playoff football, as the race is still very tight, and all 4 teams remain in the race for the two coveted spots in the finals.
Doing the damage for Orange Walk on Saturday night were Jarret Davis with a hat trick (1, 17 & 54 min), along with Oliver Hendricks (9 min) and Lorenzo Diaz (67 min). City Boys’ goal came from Dalton Cayetano at the 83rd minute.
In the other match-up, down at the Placencia Football Field, Toledo’s Paradise/Freedom Fighters got a goal in injury time to pull out the 2-2 draw against home standing Placencia Assassin. Ralph Flores (20 min) and Tarrel Flores (90+ min) scored for the Freedom Fighters; while Wilmer Garcia (23 min) and Dalton Eiley (65 min penalty) tallied for Placencia.
The 4-team double round-robin format of the playoffs means there are 6 weeks of games. Week 5 comes up this Sunday and it is a critical week for all 4 teams.
