Who were the Cadle and the Price?

LettersWho were the Cadle and the Price?

I am one of the approximately 46% of Belizeans that are living in poverty and there is no way on earth I can go to the Belize City Library to do my research on the issues that are important to me. That is why let me say thanks to the Amandala family for educating us (me).

This is an example to show how important education is, because after the learning there are questions and we start looking for answers. In the Spaniard-registered-name system, a child carries his/her first-middle or Christian name followed by the father?s first surname, then after, the mother?s first surname. In the English system children don?t carry their mother?s surname.

This makes me ask my first question ? is Cadle a Christian first middle name or a surname? Questions like this are asked because William Cadle Price had played a role in our past history and his son had and is playing a very important role in our present history.

No one will ask why so many of us are carrying a first or Christian name as Clinton, because we are not important. But Bill Clinton, ex-president of the USA, is internationally very important and his surname is our Christian name. Could there be any past slavemaster relations?

Going back to the Cadle. There are many Cadle families in our country. Are they related to William Cadle Price? Disgracefully, I was out of my country for too long, from a child, and the only thing I knew about George Cadle Price is that he went to the same school that Norris Gonzalez Garcia attended.

I used to come on vacation now and again, but I was never interested in what was going on in British Honduras, which after became Belize. In my coming and going, I got to know some persons through social parties from the NIP and the PUP. In those days it did not have any meaning to me.

I came back home to stay in the ending of 1993. From then I have been trying to learn about my people and country. I have always liked to be a freethinker and that?s the way I consider myself. I don?t like advantages to be taken against others. I am a humanist and I believe in a true democracy which I know will take a good while before it reaches its highest level.

Those of us that fight from our angle in favor of human rights and democracy are always looked at as rare animals. When I say human rights I don?t mean those that are getting paid to do so through the system. They work with and for the system.

It would be very interesting to know by the Father of the Nation, who are or were the Cadle Price and where they came from. I personally am interested because my grandmother?s name was Rosa Garcia Cadle, died in Belize City. Sofia Soto, grandmother, Honduran, died in Belize City. Manuel Soto and Margarita Nonsongo, Honduran. These two last were my great-grands. I don?t know if they came to Belize or stayed in Honduras and died there.

If someone should have some information, please help sending it to P.O. Box 193, Corozal Town. Thank you.

Respectfully,

(Signed) Clinton Luna
