ORANGE WALK, Thurs. Mar. 26, 2020– An arrest for “spreading false news” happened today in these times of COVID-19 crisis.

In a report this evening, the Police Press Office confirmed that 25-year-old shelf attendant, Erika Yanira Vargas, was charged for that offence after making the following post on social media at around 10 on Monday, March 23.

It read “My eyes are on tears plss god protect mi and my family next case in sanjose a hole family news will conform tomorrow”.

The Police Press office says this was unconfirmed news, but other social media users started sharing the message, creating public alarm in San Jose Village, Orange Walk District.

Vargas was arrested today.
