Women’s League football returns with Week 3 games

BELIZE CITY, Mon. Apr. 25, 2022 — The National Amateur Women’s League (NAWL) returned from the Easter break with Week 3 games over the weekend in its 2022 Opening Season. Three games were played on Saturday and one on Sunday.

The 10 teams in the tournament are divided into Division A and Division B based on rankings in the previous NAWL tournament; and at the end of this Opening Season, the plan is for the first place team in Division B to be advanced to Division A, and the last place team in Division A to be relegated to Division B for the NAWL 2022 Closing Season.

Here are the results from Week 3 games:
Saturday, April 23
In Division A at the Norman Broaster Stadium in San Ignacio, it was scoreless, 0-0, between Verdes Rebels and Rumberas from Mango Creek, Independence.

Also in Division A, out at the Ambergris Stadium, the visiting Sagitun Girlz from Independence came away with the 4-2 win over San Pedro Pirates. Shaking the net for Sagitun Girlz were Surma Alfaro (17’), Karisha Coe (60’ & 73’) and Sabrina Eiley (84’); while both San Pedro goals came from Iamara Baptist (53’ & 61’).

And in Division B at the Carl Ramos Stadium in Dangriga, it was the home team, Wagiya United SC sweeping the Santa Elena Strikers, 9-0, with goals from Shadette Lino (34’ & 80’), Jaelin Cacho (49’), Maria Ical (60’), Erin Elijio (61’), Jessie McLaughlin (69’), Chelsia Velasquez (76’), Leah Velasquez (79’) and Rainelle Moss (82’).

Sunday, April 24
The only NAWL game on Sunday was in Division B at the Norman Broaster Stadium, and saw visiting Bay City FC from Corozal scoring 5 unanswered goals against Cayo Dreamers for the 5-0 victory. Goal scorers for Bay City were Darina Tzul (27’), Anahie Blanco (30’ & 72’), Alisha Terry (66’) and Shante Chacon (88’).

3:00 p.m. – (A) Rumberas vs San Pedro Pirates – M.A. Stadium, Independence 3:00 p.m. – (A) Verdes Rebels vs Jewel Fury FC – Norman Broaster Stadium

Sunday, May 1
3:00 p.m. – (B) Corozal United Warriors vs Wagiya United SC – Ricalde Stadium
3:00 p.m. – (B) Santa Elena Strikers vs Cayo Dreamers – Norman Broaster Stadium (Resting – Sagitun Girlz and Bay City FC)
