BELIZE CITY, Mon. May 16, 2022
The above picture from the Facebook page of the Belize Athletics Association (BAA) tells a story about attendance at the National Track & Field Championships 2022 which were held this past weekend, Saturday and Sunday, at the Marion Jones Sports Complex track. In the picture, 14-year-old Demetrie Meyers (left), who recently Silver medaled for Belize at the Carifta Games in Jamaica, is being overtaken near the end of the Male 5000m Open race by reigning Belize champion, Albert Davis (right), 28. Davis clipped Demetrie near the finish line in both the 1500m on Saturday and the 5000m on Sunday morning; but Demetrie’s older brother, Daniel, 16, with fresher legs, got the better of Davis later on Sunday morning in the 800m. Their younger sister, 12-year-old Mallory won both the Female 1500m Open on Saturday and the Female 800m Open on Sunday, but settled for a close second behind reigning Belize champion Anna Camp in the Female 3000m early on Sunday morning.
