General1 dead, 3 injured after 18-wheeler overturned on Hummingbird

HUMMINGBIRD HIGHWAY, HERSHEY COMMUNITY, Cayo District, Wed. Aug. 16, 2017–At about 6:00 this morning, an 18-wheeler lowboy truck that was traveling on the Hummingbird Highway from Belize City, transporting construction material from Benny’s Home Center to the south, overturned between Miles 38 and 39 in the vicinity of Hershey Community.

The truck reportedly suffered a front-wheel blowout, causing it to veer off the road to the right. The driver lost control of the vehicle, and it overturned. As a result, the driver, identified as Winston Dawson, 45, a truck driver of Belama Phase 3, Belize City, suffered massive head and body injuries, and died almost immediately.

Traveling in the truck along with Dawson were Albert Che of Lords Bank, Dorian Buckley of Hattieville and Keaton Pollard of Belize City, who are all employees of Benny’s Home Center in Belize City. They suffered varying degrees of injury and were taken to the Western Regional Hospital, where they were admitted to ward for treatment.

Amandala contacted Benny’s Home Center at Mile 2 on the Philip Goldson Highway. They stated that they would release details on the men and the tragedy, but so far, the details have not been released.
