ABL U-13 & U-21 Basketball Finals results

BELIZE CITY, Mon. May 14, 2018– Here are the results for the Ahmadiyya 2018 Basketball League (ABL) U-13 and U-21 Finals held at the Belize City Civic Center on Sunday, May 13.

U-13 championship

In the U-13 third place match, Air Ballers won, 16-13, over Belama Gators. Luis Sosa had 6 pts for Air Ballers, while Kevin Welch had 5 pts for Belama Gators.

The U-13 championship match saw Future Shock coming away with the 34-19 victory over ABC Academy. Evan Welch led Future Shock with 13 pts, while Andre Balam had 7 pts for ABC Academy.

3rd place in the tournament was Belama Gators; 2nd was ABC Academy (from Chetumal); and in 1st place was Future Shock (undefeated).

U-13 awards were:  Sportsmanship Award – Rodrigo Zapata (ABC); MVP – Leroy Betson (Future Shock); Coach of the Year U-13 – Mr. Pulu Lightburn (Future Shock).

U-17 Exhibition Match

In a U-17 exhibition match, Third World Ballers (finalist) won, 54-38, over a U-17 All Star selection. Jayden Humes led Third World with 11 pts; while Rodrick Castillo and Jahred Phillips had 8 pts each for the All Stars.

The official 1st place match between Third World Ballers and Alphas (Chetumal) will be played at a later date.
U-21 championship

In the U-21 championship match, Benguche Flames clinched a 47-46 victory over Police St. Ballers. Benguche Flames were led by Raheem Thurton 10 pts 9 rebs 2 assts 1 blk, and Kevon Evans with 10 pts; while for Police St. Ballers, Francis Arana had 13 pts 2 rebs, and Raheem Baptist 8 pts.

2nd place in the U-21 tournament went to Police St. Ballers; and 1st place to Benguche Flames (Dangriga).

U-21 awards were: Sportsmanship Award – Nicholas Phillips (Belmopan Big Ballers); MVP – Raheem Thurton (Benguche Flames); Coach of the Year U-21 – Mr. Denrick Walton (Benguche Flames).
