Antwan Rivero, 19, charged with the murder of Marcia Downs, 37

BELIZE CITY, Tues. Apr. 17, 2018– In the # 2 Magistrate’s Court this morning, Senior Magistrate Aretha Ford arraigned Antwan Rivero, 19, a construction worker of a Handyside Street address, on one count of murder. The charge was for the shooting death of Marcia Downs, 37, a mother of two, who resided in an alley off Handyside Street.

Downs, who was employed at Channel 5, was shot around 8:30 p.m. on Wednesday, April 11, and died about one hour later while undergoing treatment at the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital.

The police reported that their investigation revealed that Downs was at her house when she saw a man approaching. She went to her gate to meet the man, and the man then fired two shots at her — one of which struck her in her forehead.

Rivero was remanded into custody until July 17.
