CrimeArmed robber struggled with victim for his tennis shoes

Police came up and caught the thief red-handed

A San Pedro resident, Alfredo Cowo, 22, was taken to the San Pedro Magistrate’s Court on Friday, October 25, and was remanded to the Hattieville Prison until December 5.

Cowo was captured red-handed by police while struggling with his victim to steal his footwear off his feet. He has been charged with robbery, handling stolen goods, and keeping a firearm and ammunition without a gun license.

Nelson Rhaburn, 19, of Pescador Drive, San Pedro, told police that at about 3:30 Wednesday morning, he was on Pescador Drive helping his friend when two men walked up to him. One of them, who was holding a gun in his hand, pointed the gun at him while his partner took away Rhaburn’s Camel bag, valued at $250, and a wallet valued at $65, and which contained $250 in cash.

The thieves then tried to steal Rhaburn’s Deltex tennis shoes from off his feet, but Rhaburn refused to take off his tennis shoes and give it to the thieves, and he struggled with the robber.

During the struggle, police, who were on patrol in the area, arrived and quickly subdued the thief who was struggling to rob Rhaburn of his tennis shoes. Police identified the thief as Alfredo Cowo, and detained him.

Police also found Cowo with a .32 pistol with number D1 Star and a magazine loaded with three live rounds, with one in the chamber. Cowo was taken to the San Pedro Police Station, where he was charged with the offenses.

Police are looking for his accomplice, who escaped when he saw police.
