GeneralBar owner defends himself with a baseball bat

FRANK’S EDDY, Cayo District, Thurs. Jan. 29, 2015–Antonio Segura, 53, a resident of Frank’s Eddy, is in a critical condition at the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital after a bar owner hit him in the head with a baseball bat in the yard of a bar in Frank’s Eddy at about 1:00 Sunday morning.

Bar owner Julio Reyes told police that Segura began aggressively demanding rum from him, and when he refused to give him any, Segura took out a knife and came at him, and that was when he took out his bat and hit Segura in the head, causing him to become unconscious.

Segura was rushed to the Belmopan Hospital, where he was admitted in an unconscious state. He has since been declared to be in a critical condition.

Reyes told police that he was about to close his bar around 1:00 Sunday morning when Segura, a villager, came up to him and started an argument with him, demanding some rum.

Reyes moved off and Segura approached two men who were near the bar and started an argument with them.

Reyes reported that he closed his bar and was heading to his house, which is in the same yard, when Segura ran behind him with a knife.

Reyes said that he grabbed his baseball bat, which he kept handy, and hit Segura in the head, and Segura fell to the ground.
