SAN PEDRO, Ambergris Caye, Mon. May 28, 2018– Osner Campos 26, a bartender at Wayo’s Bar, located in Boca Del Rio, is recovering at the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital (KHMH) in a stable condition from a gunshot injury that he suffered in the back of his head.
Two men have been detained in connection with the incident.
Information to us is that, at about 11:30 last Friday night, Campos was at work with a fellow bartender when two armed men of Hispanic descent entered the bar. One was armed with a pistol and the other with a sawed-off shotgun.
The man with the pistol went to the bar and pointed the gun at the other bartender and demanded money, while the other gunman kept guard at the door.
As the bartender was taking out the money from the bar’s cash register to give to the thief, the man with the pistol, for no reason, fired a shot that ricocheted and hit Campos in the back of the head. The bandit then stole the bar’s cash, robbed the clients in the bar, and escaped.
Police were called and they began an immediate investigation into the armed robbery. Campos was taken to the San Pedro Polyclinic, where he was given initial treatment, after which he was airlifted to the KHMH for further treatment.
So far, the undisclosed amount of money that was stolen from the bar has not been recovered.
