Weds. Aug. 21, 2013

Unfortunately, the Belize Female Junior National Team lost their match today against Nicaragua losing in straight sets (3-0), 25-22, 25-11, 25-21.

After a tough first set loss, the girls had a let-down in the second set but recovered in the middle of the 3rd set and reduced a 6-point margin to 2. The girls gave a valiant effort, but our unforced errors and strong serving by Nicaragua was the difference.

For Belize, Sherika Burton had 10 points, all by kills; Maurissa Williams had 4 points (3 kills, 1 block); and Jahshema Saunders had 4 points (all by kills).

Team Belize has a rest day tomorrow and returns to the court on Friday against Panama at 5:00 p.m. to keep our medal hopes alive.

(Ed. Note: Belize had defeated Honduras on Monday, so our record now stands at 2-1 in the 15th Women’s U-20 Central American Volleyball Championship. Big respect to the hard work and dedication of our volleyball association, officials and players who, after years of big losses, are now becoming seriously competitive in our region. Go, Belize!)
