GeneralCon-artist posing as a car dealer scams victim of $10,300

BELIZE CITY, Thurs. Sept. 24, 2015– A man posing as a car dealer scammed his victim out of $10,300, and has since disappeared.

The man was paid $10,300 for a car in February, and has since disappeared.

Dalila Osorio, 50, told police that on February 2, she contacted a car dealer to buy a vehicle for her in the United States, and gave him BZ$7,000 cash to carry out the purchase. She said that the man told her that the vehicle would be delivered in two weeks.

Osorio told police that the man contacted her again and told her that he needed more money to ship the vehicle to Belize and to pay a broker.

Osorio reported that she paid him an additional $3,300, thus giving him a total of $10,300.

To date, however, the car has not arrived, and the car dealer has since disappeared.

Osorio calls on the thief to have a heart and to return her money, or to send her the car.

Police have not yet found the culprit.

A car salesman who works in the Belcan area told Amandala that the man whom Osorio contracted, to buy her vehicle was not known to be a car dealer.
