GeneralCops charge William Godoy, 33, for murder of Alfredo Cowo, 26

SAN PEDRO, Ambergris Caye, Belize District, Fri. Jan. 19, 2018– Police have arrested and charged a San Pedro resident for the murder of Alfredo Cowo, 26. The accused has been officially identified as William Godoy, 33. He is to be arraigned on Monday morning in the San Pedro Magistrate’s Court.

Police say that based on an identification parade, and information from an accomplice, they have laid charges against Godoy.

In the wee hours of Tuesday, Cowo was in front of the Jaguar night club, inside a golf cart watching a Facebook video with his girlfriend when a man wearing a hoodie walked up to them and opened fire.

Cowo was the only one who was hit. He was transported to the San Pedro Polyclinic, and then by air to the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital (KHMH), where he was certified dead by medical practitioners.

Before his death, Cowo had told the media that he believed that he would be targeted by police as a result of a charge of wounding that had been brought against two officers who had opened fire in a crowd, hitting him, Cowo, in the foot. Four other persons were reportedly injured in the shooting.

The case against the two officers was dismissed in court because the prosecutor, himself a cop, failed to show up for the case.
