Former Ex-Services General Secretary writes aspiring member

Tuesday, June 27, 2017

Mr. Houston Carr
Aspiring member
Belize City Branch
Belize Ex-Services League
#45 Central American Boulevard

Dear Mr. Carr,

My attention has been drawn to a Radio and TV broadcast which was aired by KREM Radio and Television on the morning of Monday, June 19, 2017, between the hours of 8:30 a.m. and 9 a.m.

In this broadcast you made a number of statements about the secretary of the Ex-Services League and the Executive of the Ex-Services League, which I believe to be libelous.

I am the secretary of the Ex-Services League to whom you made reference, and at all material times I was a member of the National Executive Council.
This letter is to demand that you make a full and public retraction in terms to be approved by me of the libelous statements you made against me as then secretary and then member of the National Executive Council, and that you pay to me by way of compensation for damage that you have done to my reputation the sum of ($10,000.00) ten thousand dollars.

I am giving you fourteen days from the service of this notice upon you to comply with the demands above (the making of a public retraction in form to be approved by me and the payment to me of the sum of ten thousand dollars compensation).

Failure by you to comply with these demands within the specified time will result in my bringing a claim against you for libel (for the public broadcasting of false statements against me).

You said on the program that the Executive of which I was a member at all material times engaged in fraud, stealing and finance scams. These are false, malicious and libelous statements you have made about me in my official capacity as then secretary of the League and a member of the National Executive Council of the said League.

Respectfully,

Valerie Richardson, J.P.
Former secretary and former member of the Belize Ex-Services League National Executive Council.
