HeadlineGirl, 8, dies in George Price Highway accident

SAN IGNACIO TOWN, Cayo District, Tues. Sept. 22, 2015–Kaylene Luceli Mai, 8, a student of Benque Viejo Del Carmen Town in the Cayo District, died after suffering massive head and body injuries during a road accident when her mother lost control of the vehicle in which they were travelling and the vehicle overturned.

Mai was taken to the San Ignacio Town Hospital, where she was declared dead shortly after her arrival. Her body was transferred to the morgue, where it will undergo a post-mortem exam to certify the cause of her death.

The incident occurred at about 2:30 yesterday afternoon, between Miles 68 and 69 on the George Price Highway, in front of Rumors Resort.

Police reported that Evelyn Kuylen, 31, a clerk of Churchill Street, Benque Viejo Town, was travelling in her Mazda Tribute SUV from San Ignacio Town towards Benque Viejo del Carmen, along with her three children, when she lost control of the vehicle and it flipped over.

As a result, her son, Ken Mai, 9, suffered injuries on the forehead and nose ridge; abrasions on his right and left hand, and bruises on his left knee and right ankle, while baby Andrea Chiroy, 2, received abrasions on her knee, and a cut wound on the right side of her head.

Kaylene Mai suffered abrasions to her left hand, her left elbow and the forehead, as well as an injury to the stomach area, and a cut on the lip. She also suffered a cut wound on the top of head, and there was a swelling on the right side of her forehead above the eye.

They were all rushed to the San Ignacio Town Hospital, where nothing much could have been done to help Kaylene. She died shortly after her arrival at the hospital, at about 3:00 p.m.

Police Superintendent Andrew Ramirez has announced that police have launched an investigation into this tragedy.

Ramirez reminds drivers travelling on the George Price Highway to Benque from San Ignacio that the curve between Miles 68 and 69 is very dangerous and caution should be exercised when travelling in the area. It has been the scene of many road accidents. Just recently, on August 15, American Travis Turner, 68, died in a road accident on the same curve when his Dodge Ram truck collided with a Toyota Camry and he was thrown out and landed on the pavement beside the truck. He died of massive head and body injuries.

His car ran off the road and landed in a ditch off the road,

The driver of the car was identified as Carlos Chanek, 40, a taxi driver of Benque Viejo del Carmen, who reported of pain in various parts of his body.
