BELIZE CITY, Tues. Aug. 4, 2015–The Belize National Junior Female Softball Team returned home on Monday, August 3, after participating in the XI Central American Junior Female Softball Championship that was played in El Salvador.

Team Belize placed fourth, after losing a heartbreaking game to Nicaragua for the bronze medal by the score of 8–7. Belize scored 4 runs in the top of the 1st inning, 2 runs in the 5th inning and 1 run in the 6th inning. The team collected a total of 14 hits off the Nicaraguan pitcher; however, Team Belize’s pitching problem continued in the bronze medal game, when starting pitcher Renisha Richards gave up 3 runs in the 1st inning and 2 runs in the 2nd inning, when she was relieved by Shareeni Soberanis in the bottom of the 2nd inning.

Soberanis gave up a single run in the 3rd inning and 2 runs in the 7th inning. Nicaragua rallied with 2 outs in the bottom of the 7th inning, when right fielder Indira Garcia singled to centerfield, advanced to 2nd base on a hit batter, and then scored the tying run when Glenda Fernandez reached on base as a result of a fielding error by 2nd baseman Rose Vernon. Nicaragua scored the winning run when baseman Brenda Acevedo reached on shortstop Kelsey Robinson’s fielding error. As a result, Team Belize ended up without the bronze medal.

On Friday, July 31, when the 1st game was played, Belize defeated Nicaragua by the score of 8-7. Belize scored 8 runs on 11 hits, including designated player Elma Wade’s 2-run homer in the bottom of the 5th inning. Winning pitcher was Renisha Richards, who struck out 8 batters, walked 9 batters and had 3 hit batters.

In the 2nd game of the day, El Salvador defeated Belize by the score of 10–2. Belize collected 5 hits, including a solo home run by Kelsey Robinson in the 5th inning. The losing pitcher was Shareeni Soberanis.

On Saturday, August 1, in the 1st game of the day, Belize lost to Guatemala by the score of 10–0. The losing pitcher was Renisha Richards, who had relief help from Elma Wade.

In the 2nd game of the day, Belize fell to Nicaragua by the score of 11–1.

In game 3, Guatemala defeated Belize by 9–1. Shareeni Soberanis was the losing pitcher.

And then on Sunday, August 2, El Salvador defeated Belize by 11–3.

The Team will take a break for the Senior Female Championship and September Celebrations and return to training on September 26, 2015.
